چکیده

Low birthweight Low birthweight (less than 2,500 grams) has been identified as an important factor impacting on child survival and can affect perinatal mortality, infant mortality, and development of chronic diseases in later life. Preterm birth (<37 weeks) or restricted foetal growth can result in a low birthweight birth. Accordingly, a key performance indicator measuring the incidence of low birthweight of live born babies has been adopted nationally to monitor the impact of interventions and to improve the chances of child survival.

A major deter...

Reducing perinatal mortality among Indigenous babies in Queensland: should the first priority be better primary health care or better access to hospital care during confinement?

The aim of our study was to estimate the extent to which increased risk of low birthweight and preterm birth among Indigenous babies in Queensland account for their continuing mortality excess. If a large proportion of excess deaths can be explained by the unfavourable birthwe...

The objective of this study was to examine gestational ...

The maternal and neonatal outcomes for an urban Indigenous population compared with their non-Indigenous counterparts and a trend analysis over four triennia

BACKGROUND Indigenous Australians experience significantly disproportionate poorer health outcomes compared to their non-Indigenous counterparts. Despite the recognised importance of maternal infant health (MIH), there is surprisingly little empirical research to guide service redesign that successfully addresses the disparities. This paper reports on a service evaluation that also compared key...
